Fritz Eichenberg was a great supporter and close friend of Dorothy Day. He created numerous original wood engravings for illustrations in The Catholic Worker. He also engraved images relating to the life of Christ, as well as for Dorothy Day's autobiography The Long Loneliness. In addition, he created beautiful prints related to the Old Testament and fine portraits of other spiritual leaders such as Lao-Tsu and Mahatma Gandhi, which we are glad to offer here. All of these wood engravings were printed from the original hand-carved blocks. In most cases editions of just 50 impressions were printed, and each print is pencil signed by Fritz Eichenberg.
